Meet your hosts
We realize that there are many, many Franco-American absurd fiction podcasts that offer flash fiction in audio form, cooked up by a team in France and in Indiana. We therefore sincerely appreciate your time and interest in what we do.
Here’s who we are:
A freelance conference interpreter and translator based out of Paris, Xavier Combe is the French Connection for Canary Canard. He has worked on French public radio for over 35 years and teaches at the University of Paris X-Nanterre. He has authored 3 books in French (one of them has won a prize) and quite a few (moderately) philological op-eds in the French press. He writes and narrates most of the stories you hear on this podcast. In addition, he is the sommelier for our company picnics, often pairing Chateau Mouton Rothschild Bordeaux with a block of Velveeta cheese at the insistence of the other half of the Alliance, the American, Jim Hall...
A 2-time Peabody Award winner for his work in TV, Jim Hall, a 23-time Emmy winner, is currently a documentary filmmaker. He is Co-Producer/Editor on international award-winning films that tell the life stories of two Hoosier legends known to the world as literary and jazz giants: Kurt Vonnegut and Wes Montgomery. As Executive Producer of the podcast, Hall’s duties include Sound & Music Design, Editing, Graphic Artwork and Character Voices (all those tasks are capitalized, yes, because it’s a lot to juggle single-handedly). In addition to writing and narrating a few stories of his own, he also occasionally volunteers unwonted input to the stories of Xavier Combe (“Hey, how about adding a pissed-off mime?”).
